Humanistic Counselling - Helping You Find Your Path In Life

Sometimes we get lost in life, we lose sight of what is important to us and our values. Humanistic Counselling is a holistic approach that can help us find our direction again, either through change or acceptance of who we are. We all have the capacity to heal in our own way given a space that is warm, empathic and values you for who you are.

About me and my practice

My fundamental belief is that we all have the capacity to change or grow given the space and time to do so. We often have our own unique internal resources that can guide us, reconnecting with this can help us find our own answers. Counselling can enable this especially in a collaborative relationship.

My practice is centred upon what your needs are, however I don't give advice. I can help by providing a emotionally safe place in which you can explore your thoughts and feelings about the concerns you bring to therapy. Counselling can also be challenging especially when we feel ready to explore our feelings on a deeper level.

Whilst mostly Person-Centred, my style of work integrates Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. I often weave in aspect from Solution Focused Therapy. Creative techniques can often help with emotional expression. I can also provide guidance on mindfulness if you wish. I have an active interest in existentialism.

Therapy can be hard work and I will encourage clients to invest in self-care. I have maintained my sense of playfulness and humour can help us at times! I love the outdoors.

I offer counselling single session therapy, short terms or on an open-ended basis. I also appreciate that for shift workers and others, flexibility is useful.

Experience

I have been counselling since 2019 and most of my work is related to loss or change in one form or another.

Loss occurs when something in our life is no longer present. It covers many aspects of life, from identity to bereavement to moving home or even country. Loss of health affects many, not just those with health issues but for those who care. Loss can occur in relationships (work, friends and family, pets).

I also have experience of working with anxiety and depression.

I work with trauma including PTSD and this can affect many of us during our lifetime and recognising its impact can help us heal.

Additional Information

Counselling can be tough, it can be upsetting, uplifting, life changing. Sometimes that change may be acceptance! The hardest bit is getting started. It is normal to feel nervous. Some of the things that cause us concerns are common and this knowledge in itself can be powerful.

You have nothing to lose by taking that first step.

Initial Consultation

I offer a 20 minute 'hello' call before we start working, this is obligation free and gives you the opportunity to see how you feel talking to me. It's ok not to like me! It will also allow me to gauge if I can help you. Then you can decide on your next step.

Please note I do not work with couples and I am not a sex therapist.

Fees

My fees for online counselling are £45 (£30 concession for those on low income).
